Wheathampstead is a close-knit community, proud of its heritage and its local institutions. Sandridge ward is included in Wheathampstead and Sandridge branch. There are two distinct areas, Sandridge village, and Jersey farm, the latter being a large development on the outskirts of St Albans, included in the constituency when it was green fields. There are perhaps half a dozen members in each part of the ward, and we have had some volunteers to deliver leaflets. Jersey Farm estate consists of a ring road with numerous closes off on either side, and one small shopping/community area in the middle.
Wheathampstead Labour Party has been part of that community for many years. The Branch takes a keen interest in local issues of concern, including the accessibility of schooling for our children and the provision of housing and other amenities, as well as the major national debates on the economy, health and education. We hold regular meetings and send representatives to the Hitchin and Harpenden Constituency Labour Party. We are represented on the Parish Council, but not, at present, on St Albans City and District Council. Sandridge has only two councillors, and so has elections in only two years out of four. In 2015 Michael-Gray Higgins is standing as candidate for the ward.
