Labour Candidate For Oughton 10 November 2016

Martin Stears-Handscomb

As your Labour and Co-operative Party candidate I am committed to a fairer society, believing that things work best when everyone has a voice and when services are accountable to the people who use them.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you, with Councillor Frank Radcliffe and the team of Labour Councillors on the district council to serve the interests of Oughton ward.

If you elect me, I will work with my colleagues to support the project at Westmill Community Centre, the provision of housing and shops at John Barker place, and revitalising the area, helping to bring business, jobs for the residents and creating a safe place for families and recreational facilities for the young and old alike.

My 20 years’ experience as a North Herts Councillor, ten of them as Councillor for Oughton, will serve you well, as I have a proven record of holding the Tory Council to account including chairing the Council’s Scrutiny Committee for 5 years, when I  persuaded the Council to support co-operative businesses. I continue to chair the successful Black Squirrel Credit Union.
An active Christian, I am a member of Tilehouse Street Baptist Church.  In my spare time I enjoy watching sport and support Southampton Football Club.

I retire as an accountant in November, have previously been a teacher, an IT researcher and a bus driver. So I have the skills, experience and the time to serve Oughton and deliver for our community.
