Hitchin and Harpenden Labour Party Hitchin and Harpenden Labour Party news, contact details, information and events
Thanks for taking a look at your local Labour Party website. Labour has an active, growing, and extremely friendly presence across Hitchin, Harpenden, Redbourn, Wheathampstead and the neighbouring villages. We have close to 1000 members, and we’ve grown Labour’s vote significantly at the last three General Elections. Our candidate received 7,400 votes in 2010, 11,400 in 2015, and over 19,000 in 2017. The swing to Labour in 2017 was the second largest in the entire eastern region.
That’s some way short of the 30,000 plus votes received by the serving Conservative MP, but we are determined to change that and help to elect a Labour MP for Hitchin and Harpenden at the next General Election, whenever that may be.
We have active branches in Hitchin, Harpenden and Redbourn, and you will be welcomed warmly to whichever branch is more convenient for you once you have joined the Labour Party. Monthly meetings are held in the evening. Meanwhile the Constituency Labour Party (CLP) also meets every two months. Plenty of members attend both their branch meeting and the CLP gatherings.
What we do
We are proud to have a number of incredibly hard working Labour Councillors at both District and County Council. You can hear from some of them here. As a member you can get involved as much or as little as you want. We regularly canvas the neighbourhoods to hear what people are concerned about. We need help delivering leaflets and developing content. We need people who might consider standing at local elections.
Many of our members have been involved with the Labour Party for many many years. Others have joined more recently. Everyone is welcome, all genders, ages, religions and sexualities. Respect for one another is one of our guiding principles. We don’t always agree with one another, but we always respect each other, and we have fun too.
