31st January 2020 – Hitchin and Harpenden Labour Party has nominated Keir Starmer as the next leader of the Labour Party, with Angela Rayner nominated as deputy leader following its nomination meeting held in Hitchin, which was attended by 57 members.

At the same meeting Thomas Plater and Lauren Townsend were chosen as the constituency party’s two nominations for the National Executive Committee (NEC), Labour’s ruling body.

The Constituency Labour Party nomination period is the second stage of Labour’s leadership election. It closes in mid February, when the final ballot of all qualifying members will commence. The new leadership team will be announced in early April.
